The Haney Horsemen Association honored "THE SILVER GHOST" and Chinook Arabians by naming a trail after him. For several years Chinook Arabians has been offering a stud service up for bids with the winning bid being donated to the HHA to help improve, maintain and preserve the quality of our BC's trails within our community network. Future generations of horse owners will now be able to travel down a trail portion that a horse helped maintain! Chinook Arabians and Stables had a Fabulous September Labour Day weekend with much thanks to Will Clinging. This was our second annual Long Weekend clinic but our third overall with the man everyone is talking about these days. The weather was definately on our side when looking back at the year before. Last year we huddled under cover sharing blankets, sipping on hot drinks and listening intently to Mr. Clinging over his loud speaker through the thunder showers. This year was a HOT one and perhaps a tad dusty but the crowd seemed alright with it knowing the current water restrictions set at the time. Firday night was a FREE Demo that Will Clinging generously gave to those interested in getting a taste of what he could do. Two horses were used in the Demo which took place in both the round pen and the main arena. The first horse was a 2year old TWH gelding who would later, go on to take part in the rest of the Clinic. He was un-started and lets just say he had issues but not for long as the Demo with this gelding and Will was amazing! The second, was a 16 month old Fiesty Arabian Filly who needed to learn how to load safe into the trailer. This Demo was incredible! By the end, her owner, Tanna, was able to hold her rope, point and basically shoot... her filly could not wait to leap in as if to say "did I do good Mama?". The Following three days saw some great relationships form with both humans and horses. Some mighty strong bonds were re-enforced and created with Horses and their owners. Many tears were shed while owners made incredible breakthroughs. The clinic subjects varied from un-broke to well seasoned with deep issues needing to be looked at. Some because of the horses and others because the owners needed some much needed soft support from such a knowledgeable man as Will Clinging. Our resident Stallion, The Silver Ghost had a session in the round pen with Will and we all enjoyed that! The Silver Ghost is a smart horse and he will try to be a step ahead of most people who are new to him. Will handled him well and the partnership they had was one of total acceptance in both parties. Will Clinging was quoted to say "I don't want to donminate this horse, I just want to agree to get along". I liked hearing that as I feel it was great for others to understand how a Stallion thinks. Later, for the last two days, a young lady whom The Silver Ghost was unfamiliar with, rode him and Learned a great deal mutually. One participant thought she was only in the clinic to get her Pretty Standardbred mare to Canter and by the end of the clinic, BJ had learned a whole lot more than Canter along with her owner! It was amazing and if there had been prizes for peoples accomplishments for this weekend, Robyn and BJ would have gotten the 'Most Improved' prize for sure! Robyn bubbled with confidence and drive to move forward from that point. She was an ispiration to me and I felt lucky to meet her.

Karen Metters and her little Arab Mare were unforgetable to all of us! I am not sure that even Will himself had ever seen such a brave Arab filly with such a relationship based on pure trust right from get go. Myra, just a three year old, was brave, bold and most of all fun to watch. Smart and willing to learn how to be a 'big girl' now that she will be carring her Mama on her back. Karen had never ben on her filly before this weekend and with the guidence and support of Will, this weekend built an already strong bond even stronger. Karen later stayed at Chinook Stables for an additional two weeks to put some back to back days on her little girl and we all miss them so much now that they have gone home. See you back in the spring Karen and Myra! The team Naomi and Tonka, from my point of view, were the most touching of the bunch. Naomi had experienced a traumatic fall off of Tonka over a year prior. The fall lefter her pretty banged up with Back Injuries and Dislocate in her shoulder. Apparently Tonka had a long history of bucking when asked to canter as well as kicking out the odd spell of 'tude here and there. Naomi healed herself up and a fear developed with the injury and the time that was lapsing. It was time for Tonka to get over his issues and Naomi to bite the bullet with him once and for all. We will all forever have that teary image installed in our minds as Naomi and Tonka took a first Canter since the accident. Naomi touched me in a special way. I had not known her before this clinic and later learned that she is the sister of my sister's husband. Whew.. small world and a great one at that! John is the proud owner of Rod the TWH gleding who was also our Friday Demo Horse. John looked so proud up on his weee lil' pony. Rod was just two and still has much growing left in him mental and physical however the whole weekend saw Rodney and John leap through some huge hurddles as Rodney was ridden for the very first time. John and his family went home with so much that the following weekend they booked in Rodney's full sister Bell, to another clinic being held at Spady Farms. The food was good and we tried to keep the menu fresh and differnt from day to day. There was many cameras, a casual autmosphere and much laughter. Sitting around the main entrance of Chinook was a highlight for me. Lots of good people sharing ideas, thoughts and best of all, picking Will Clingings info packed brain. By the end of Monday, most of the Auditors had disprused and there was left a small intimate group of us. I had this funny flutter in me and I wonder if any of the other felt it too. It was like we all had grown to know each other without even really knowing each other if that makes sense. It felt happy and sad. It felt like some bonds were made there to last a life time. There was a pause of silence as a small group of us stood there; some of us not really wanting to say good-bye. None of us wanting to be teary or sappy while I just know the emotion meter was running high.
Thank you again to Will Clinging and his wonderful natural talents. Thanks to his wonderful wife Shauna Clinging who is a very large part of Results Through Respect. Of coarse it is always a pelasure to have Will's horses with us and this time it was sweet Vanilla.. what a star she is!
